A Deep Dive into the Saucony Trainer 80

A Modern Classic, thats how i'd describe the Saucony Trainer 80. Years and years of heritage but still relevant today even if not in the way it was maybe originally intended. It all started back in 1978, with the running boom in the USD in full effect, becoming a recreational craze as well as an elite sport and with the likes of Nike and Onitsuka Tiger dominating the footwear market it was Saucony that changed the game.
The Trainer 80 was at the peak of innovative running footwear design, with a nylon and mesh upper to make it lightweight but with a suede overlay to maintain the structure of the shoe. The grippy outsole for better traction and most importantly the full EVA midsole for ultra comfort and cushioning. There it was, history made.

These vintage adverts speak volumes to what the Saucony Trainer 80 meant to running scene once upon a time:

Fast forward almost 50 years and the Trainer 80 still stands strong. Now don't get me wrong the innovation and design you see in running footwear nowadays far exceeds what Saucony created back in 1978, with carbon plates and all sorts involved these days buts its in a different way that the Trainer 80 now garners the respect that it deserves.
In a world where nostalgia is as strong as ever and people love to see or be reminded of things they used to watch or collect or even wear is where the heritage of the Trainer 80 shines brightest. Reimagined nowadays the shoe hasn't forgotten its roots with plenty of nylon and suede overlays and pops of colour that scream 80's vintage but it now sits right within that old school runner market that people love to wear on a day to day basis.
Ok so you're not breaking Usain Bolt's 100m record in these sneakers but damn they look cool with pair of jeans as your on your way to the pub to watch the Super Sunday football.
Both the Trainer 80 in Navy & Red and the Trainer 80 in White & Maroon are available in store and online now.
